The Fresh & Easy Store in Mira Mesa Launches Program to Raise Money for Local Schools

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market today announced the launch of a school fundraising program throughout Mira Mesa called ‘Shop for Schools.’  Schools that have registered for the program will be eligible to receive a $1 cash donation for every $20 spent at a local Fresh & Easy store.

All eligible schools with students in kindergarten through 8th grade within a three-mile radius of a Fresh & Easy store can participate in the program.  Shop for Schools will run from February 1, 2009 through March 31, 2009.  Eligible schools have been sent a registration form to participate in the program and must register by January 23, 2009.

Registered schools will mobilize parents and students to shop at Fresh & Easy and then collect and submit receipts for verification.  Fresh & Easy will cut a check to the school for the amount raised.  The money raised can be used for whatever the school needs most.  For more information and rules and regulations, visit freshandeasy.com/shopforschools.

“With school budgets in Mira Mesa increasingly under pressure, our customers are looking for ways to help raise money.  We created Shop for Schools to be part of the solution and give back to the neighborhood,” said Fresh & Easy District Manager Alec Meyer.  “The money raised can be used on whatever each school needs most – like books, sports equipment, instruments or computers.  The more customers shop at Fresh & Easy, the more money they can raise for their schools.”

There are currently 55 Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets located in California.

About Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market
At roughly 10,000 square feet, Fresh & Easy markets are smaller than the typical supermarket to give customers a faster, easier shopping experience.  In addition to fresh, high-quality prepared meals and produce, Fresh & Easy offers everyone’s favorite national brand products and household items, all at budget prices.

Each store employs approximately 20-30 people.  All Fresh & Easy employees are given the opportunity to work at least 20 hours a week, which ensures everyone is eligible for comprehensive and affordable health care.  Entry-level positions start at $10 an hour in California, with similarly competitive salaries in other states, and offer a quarterly bonus of up to 10%.
