Our local Fire Station #41 has received a lot of community love lately, in the form of a fresh paint job backed by the efforts of our Mira Mesa HEROES. Once the exterior was completed, the interior had a complete make-over thanks to the efforts of Rebuilding Together San Diego and Turner Construction. Please use this link to view a video of the completed projects. Great job to all the volunteers from both phases of this project, as our Fire Fighters from Station #41 thank you for all of your support and efforts!

Are you looking for something different to do with your family now that summer is here? Back by popular demand, the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation has teamed up with the cities of National City, La Mesa, San Marcos, Poway, Oceanside and Lemon Grove to bring 20 movies to parks and pools this summer, making it the largest free movie event in the county. The program kicks off June 19 with a showing of “Madagascar 2″ at the Fallbrook Community Center and continues through September 26 with such box office hits as “Kung Fu Panda,” “Night at the Museum 2″ and “Wall-E, as well as classics such as “The Wizard of Oz” and “E.T.” The movies will be shown in high-quality digital on a 28-foot inflatable widescreen specially designed for large audiences. Mira Mesa Farmers Market Grand Opening

The Mira Mesa Farmers Market is now Open for Business! We had a great turn out for the opening day of the farmers market, which will be held in front of Mira Mesa High School every Tuesday from 3-7 PM. The variety of vendors at the farmers market was fantastic, and it will only get better.

You could find everything from; custom glassware, jewelry, fresh fish, certified organic produce, and a variety of tasty food served up hot and fresh. The curry brats were awesome, and I plan on trying the crepes and mini donuts at the next one. The vendors were as excited to be here as we were to load up on their unique products.

The Mira Mesa High Marching Band
provided the entertainment during a beautiful sunny day, and I was proud to introduce the people responsible for bringing the Farmers Market to Mira Mesa during the Opening Ceremony. This would not have happened without the combined efforts of: Brian Wissinger-resident and Treasurer of the Mira Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Scott Giusti-Principal of Mira Mesa High School, Kathy Madsen-President of the Mira Mesa High School Foundation, Jennifer Kvalvik-Mira Mesa High Employer Outreach Specialist , and Ron LaChance who is the manager of the Mira Mesa Farmers Market.

The success of the Mira Mesa Farmers Market relies upon the community supporting this each week. Spread the word, and tell your friends about our newest addition to the Mira Mesa Community. This is one of the most exciting things to happen to Mira Mesa recently, and the response has been overwhelming. Look for the street signs each Tuesday to remind you to stop by on your way home, or carpool with the members of your office and get some great fresh produce at very reasonable prices. It is fun for the whole family, so make plans to attend the Mira Mesa Farmers Market next Tuesday.

Mira Mesa Farmers Market Coming April 21

Mira Mesa Farmers Market is Coming Soon! Efforts are under way to establish a weekly farmers market that will offer Mira Mesa Residents locally grown fresh produce, flowers, and a variety of other unique items from the front of Mira Mesa High School. There will also be booths available for crafts, food, and other specialty items for your shopping pleasure.

Many of our neighbors have been asking for a Farmers Market in our area, and thanks to the hard work of  Brian Wissinger from the Mira Mesa Chamber of Commerce, and Ron LaChance, who manages several Farmers Markets in San Diego County, this will become a reality mid-April. A portion of the profits will directly benefit the Mira Mesa High School Foundation, which also have been helpful in assisting with the creation of the Farmers Market.

The proposed opening day is April 21, and will feature music, food, entertainment and some great deals on locally grown produce. The Mira Mesa Farmers Market will be located on the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd. and Reagan Road each Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. during the summer season, and 3-6 p.m. during the winter. Buy with confidence! This will be a Certified Farmers Market.

You can become a Certified Farmer/Producer and sell your products at our Farmer’s Market.

The San Diego County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures will certify local gardeners/farmers to sell their produce at farmer’s markets:
o    In most cases, only three (3) plants or trees of same produce are required to participate;
o    What is a Certified Farmer?
Inspectors from the Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures inspect farms and other properties to verify what is raised or grown there. After satisfactorily meeting the requirements of the inspection, the farmer is certified for specific products. This certification allows the farmer to sell his produce at Certified Farmers’ Markets.
o    Go here for information and to download your Certified Producer application package – http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/awm/farmers_markets.html

We will have more information as the grand opening date approaches. Spread the word to your friends and neighbors, and let’s make the Mira Mesa Farmers Market a huge success! To apply to become a vendor, check this link at the Mira Mesa Farmers Market.
