July 2, 2012 by

The 38th annual Mira Mesa Community 4th of July Parade and Family Fun Day will take place from 7 am until 9 pm.

The annual Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Black Mountain Lodge will serve breakfast from 7 am unti 11 am at the Epicentre, 8450 Mira Mesa Blvd.

At 11 am, the Mira Mesa 4th of July parade will step off from Mesa Town Center at the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd and Greenford Drive. This year’s parade is the largest in San Diego County, with over 60 units. The parade will proceed down Mira Mesa Blvd to Camino Ruiz, then turn right to New Salem St and disband on the east side of Mira Mesa Community Park, adjacent to the Recreation Center.

Family Fun Day in the Park begins at 11 am and continues until 9 pm. This year’s event features Carnival Rides, the Gamez on Wheelz truck, food vendors supplying every imaginable cuisine, Willy Santos’ skateboarding, a Hip Hop stage, an artists area, the Kids Zone, and the Community Stage. KyXy 96.5 FM and Energy 103.7 will be on hand with games and give-aways.

The annual Fireworks Extravaganza will take place at 9 pm, synchronized to the music of KyXy 96.5 FM. This year’s show came within hours of being cancelled, due to a lack of funding. Several local businesses and organizations stepped in with contributions to keep the show going, along with donations from numerous individuals in the community. Companies contributing $1,000 or more to save this year’s show include:

  • Garden Communities
  • Lehigh Hanson, Inc.
  • Mira Mesa Recreation Council
  • Mira Mesa Shopping Center, LLC
  • Mira Mesa Youth Baseball
  • Vulcan Materials

Help Support Taylor Church

Taylor ChurchTaylor Church is a spirited, fun loving, vivacious 21-year old.  On Wednesday May 16th, Taylor was taken to the emergency room at Palomar hospital after suffering several days of flu like symptoms.  After being examined they realized she had Sepsis, a severe infection of the bloodstream.

Three days later she had double pneumonia, extremely low blood pressure, and a racing heart rate. By Saturday morning she was put in a drug induced coma and placed on a ventilator as one by one her organs began to shut down.

On Monday, June 4, Taylor had both of her legs amputated just below the knee and her hands will be amputated later this week as the result of the powerful medication required to treat sepsis.

Taylor Church’s dad Chris served 25 years in the United States Marine Corp with his wife Laurie by his side for the past 26 years. The family is not only experiencing tremendous heartache right now but also some financial burdens with more to come to pay for Taylor’s care.

Here are some links to some fundraisers, if you would like to help…

Mira Mesa Fireworks 2011 – Fourth of July Celebration

July 2, 2011 by

Yipee… it’s time to celebrate our country’s independence again with a fun-filled day and night in Mira Mesa. The 4th of July falls on a Monday this year, which is much better than Sunday like last year, as lots of you (myself included) are getting an extra day off work. Like usual, things get started at 7:00AM, so make sure to go to bed early on Sunday so you can make it through the entire day on the fourth.

Before I give you the lineup for this year events, please take a moment and click the “Give” button to the right and make a donation (large or small) to help support having Fireworks in Mira Mesa. If you do not know, the cost of putting on Fireworks in Mira Mesa is very expensive and all the money has to be raised each year by hard working volunteers. Last year’s fireworks display cost around $25,000, including a City fee of approximately $3,500. The entire Fourth of July celebration, including the annual Mira Mesa Fourth of July parade and the Family Fun Day in the Park, costs approximately $45,000 which is a lot of money to raise. So if you could please help with any amount of money, it would be greatly appreciated, and it would help to keep fireworks in Mira Mesa each year. Donations go directly to Scripps Mesa Fireworks, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization established to help the communities of Mira Mesa and Scripps Ranch in celebrating a meaningful family oriented Independence Day. Okay… that’s it for the sales pitch.

Here is this year’s lineup:

  • 7:00am – 11:00 am: Pancake Breakfast at the Epicentre (presented by Black Mountain Lodge F&AM)
  • 11:00am – (All Day): “Fun Day at the Park” runs all day long at the Mira Mesa Community Park and it is definitely the best place to celebrate Independence Day in Mira Mesa. There are rides for the kids, lots of food vendors, and tons of space to hangout and BBQ with friends and family. Just make sure to get there really early to grab a prime spot.
  • 11:30am: The 4th of July Parade (presented by Mira Mesa Town Council). The Parade runs down Mira Mesa Blvd. from Greenford Dr. all the way down to Camino Ruiz where it turns right for one block and then another right on New Salem ending just past the Fire Station. Onlookers line the streets all the way down the Parade route, so grab your beach chair and stake out a good spot early.
  • 9:00pm: FIREWORKS!!! Mira Mesa has a great fireworks display each year and it is well worth hanging out until 9:00 and watching. The fireworks are synchronized to the music of local radio station KYXY (96.5 FM), so make sure to bring your radio and some extra batteries.

How would you like to be on “America’s Got Talent”? Now’s your chance to show off your skills locally and possibly be invited on the TV show. The Mira Mesa Theater Guild will be having auditions for a local version called; “Mira Mesa’s Got Talent” and they will be video taping the event to hopefully find a real diamond to send off to the TV show.

Mira Mesa's Got Talent AuditionsAuditions will be taking place on May 5th and 12th in the evenings from 7-9pm at the Mira Mesa Epicenter and it is open to everyone. They will not allow anything profane or otherwise not family friendly, as well as anything dangerous.

The actual show will be on May 21st from 7pm-10pm, also at the Epicenter. They are hoping to have three “Celebrity” judges for the show night, Lauren O’Brien and Steve Woods from the Mikey Show a morning drive radio show from 6-10AM on 94.9FM, and Mr. Ted Brengle the President of the Mira Mesa Town Council. First prize will be $200 cash and other assorted prizes.

The Mira Mesa Theater Guild is also in need of some sponsors for the event and whatever you feel okay with would be greatly appreciated. They would like a name sponsor(s) for the program as well, which might get your name on the back of the tickets and posters. They are open to anyone and anything at this point that helps.

What are you waiting for? Start sharpening up on your skills today and maybe you can be the first winner of Mira Mesa’s Got Talent, and who knows what will happen after that!
