Do you know who represents your voice in Congress? You can find out tonight as U.S. Congressman Brian Bilbray is the guest speaker at our Mira Mesa Town Council meeting. The meeting takes place at 7:00 p.m. at the Mira Mesa Library. You can find out first hand what is going on in Washington D.C. and how their decisions affect our homes and businesses here in Mira Mesa.
John Lee Evans has been fighting for our schools, and he has a few offerings that need your help.
Advisory groups: We are forming advisory groups in each community. The purpose of the advisory groups is a) to work for the improvement of the neighborhood schools and b) to have a line of communication with the Board of Education. If you have not already signed up, please contact Carol Hunter, Community Liaison, for more information. clancy47@cox.net We will start having neighborhood meetings in September.
Your neighborhood school needs YOU! At a recent Board meeting Mr. Evans proposed to make 2009-2010 the Year of the School Volunteer. We want to recognize those who are already doing so much, as well as to draw in many more from the community to help our schools. We want our schools to be the heart of the neighborhood. For more information about the new volunteer program contact Carol at clancy47@cox.net.
Proposal to organize schools by community: We will ask the District to assign School Improvement Officers by clusters rather than randomly. This would allow each community to have a go-to person in the District for all of their community schools. We need to make sure our elementary, middle and high schools are working together. We need the school district addressing us as communities of schools, rather than isolated schools reporting to a central office. For more information contact John Lee Evans, SD Unified Trustee, District A: johnleeevans@sandi.net.

There will be a grand opening ceremony for the Camino Ruiz Trail which will take place this Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m. This is a new access trail which connects the community of Mira Mesa with the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. The ceremony is open to the public, and you are all welcome to attend the festivities. The fun takes place at the Camino Ruiz Community Park at the north end of Camino Ruiz.
