Beautify Mira Mesa - We Need Your Help!

Posted on 11 March 2008 by Doug Dillard

This past Sunday we had about 25 volunteers show up and paint a section of the block wall on Mira Mesa Blvd. just east of Parkdale that has been neglected for decades. Beautify Mira MesaThat was just the start of this ongoing project to beautify the streets of Mira Mesa and we definitely could use your help each week. The schedule is not set in stone, but at least for the next couple weeks we will need volunteers from 8am to 10am on Sunday mornings. The more volunteers we get, the faster we will get done. Grab your significant other and/or your older kids and get involved in your community. Here is a great article on why you should volunteer with other family members.

The Mira Mesa Town Council approved $1000 towards the paint for this project at their last meeting and Frazee Paint and Wallcovering on Miramar Road has graciously volunteered to supply us with more paint as the project rolls along.Mira Mesa Looking Better

Now if you really don’t have the time or the ability to paint, there are other things you could do to help out. One of the coolest things that happened this past Sunday was a man stopped by in his car (out of the blue) and dropped off a big box of donuts to the volunteers. He was practically in tears when he dropped them off as he thanked us for the work we were doing. Now that made everyone feel good!

Now there are close to 80,000 of us living in Mira Mesa these days. If just a small percentage of us can spare a couple hours now and then we can clean this community up in no time. Please… make your plans to volunteer and let’s make Mira Mesa a beautiful place to live in!

If you would like to see some more photos that were taken of last Sunday’s event, you can check them out on Ted Brengel’s website.

Help Our Kids Saturday, March 8th!

Posted on 07 March 2008 by Doug Dillard

Here is an email I received yesterday that I am passing along….

“As you are undoubtedly aware, the budget cuts for education, and in particular San Diego Unified School District, have been a major topic of conversation around this area as of late. The Board of Education is meeting this Tuesday and we plan on being there, with signs, etc. showing our displeasure at how they are going to make these cuts. We feel that the cuts are going to impact the classrooms and children directly, when they should be making the cuts as far away from the children as possible. Let the School Board Hear Us!The board is going to be making most of their decisions that morning in a closed meeting. We are trying to get our voices heard now. We are going to meet at the Mira Mesa High School on Saturday with signs. We are bringing our kids. We are going to get our tin cups and buckets out and we are going to ‘panhandle’ Mira Mesa. We will spread ourselves somewhere between Soup Plantation, down to the high school. We are hoping to get our voices heard by staging this ‘beg to keep the schools running’ campaign, if you will. We are contacting the press. We really need HUNDREDS of people out there to make an impact. If we are loud enough, Sacramento might hear us. The event is going to be from 9-12. (We are hoping for the biggest turnout from 10-11 for press purposes). We ask people to bring signs, bring people, bring cups. I am going to make a bunch of signs , but the more people can bring, the better. People can even come early, put up tents or park their cars along the street and plaster them with signs. Anything to make this visible. This is last minute so we are trying to notify as many people as possible. I was hoping you might be able to help spread the word.”
